Elsie's Blessing

Elise's Blessing was a beautiful day. We blessed her on September 1st the same day as my good friend Jen blessed her baby, Malcom. We  had lot of family in town for the blessing. Great-Grandma Lamoreaux, Grandma and Grandpa Thorne, David, James, and Melissa came in town for it. Kent gave her a beautiful blessing. My mom made her beautiful gown out of scrap material from the wedding dress she made me. I made a cute bow for her dress, a bow for her head, and a bracelet. She look adorable.
Here she is with her brothers.

Elsie Sheree

Elsie Sheree

I know I haven't posted on here for a very long time....but I had a baby and I wanted to put my labor story down somewhere before I forgot it. Maybe it will spur me into starting to blog again!!!!

So I finally have a little girl!! I was kind of nervous having a girl....I only know boys!!! But I was so excited to finally have a little girl to dress up, sew for, and to do girly thing!!!

My pregnancy was really good for the most part. I was sick the first trimester. I didn't even know I was pregnant until 9 weeks when I was getting sick all the time. So one day I call my husband up to grab some cheese on the way home and while he was at it to get a pregnancy test. He had no clue about it before that. We expected to have to do fertility treatments again, or not have any more kids. I couldn't workout the first trimester hardly at all. Even reading would make me too nauseous. Normally, I can't have sweet thing when I have morning sickness, but this time it was all I wanted. Talk about a girl pregnancy being different than a boy one! The second trimester I was up and getting things done. I was able to run until I had the baby! I did a 5 mile race 34 week pregnant along with several others. On my due date I walk/ran 3 miles (ran most of it). I had good energy for most of it. I worked up until summer school was over at 37 weeks. Then started the waiting game.

Elsie was born 9 days late!!! So while I was waiting I did projects, cleaned the house, took my kids to the lake, and spent time with my boys!!!
I went to a midwife at a birthing center this time. I loved it!!! I loved that I took my own weight and blood pressure and never had to pee in a cup. I didn't have an internal exam until 41 weeks when I had my membranes stripped. I was dilated to a 3 cm and 75% effaced. Since I am a returning VBAC, I couldn't deliver at the birthing center, but had to deliver at the hospital.
The so I went to doctor at 41 weeks (had my membranes stripped) I had a gift card (that was 7 years old) for a back massage. The whole way there, during the massage, and all the way home I had contractions every 10 min apart. Not painful, but a lot of pressure, and had the pattern of a contraction. As soon as I got home and was getting the boys to bed. They stopped. Grr!!! The next night they started again while I was bouncing on the ball. They were every 3-4 min apart. I called Kent and was trying to decide if he should come home from work, or not when Barrett fell off the bed and whacked his head really hard, so I just told him to come home. By the time he got home they stopped. Uggg!!! I was really ready to have this baby!!! So I took a bath to see if that would help, it didn't so we went to bed.

Finially----- Here is the good part!!!

I woke up at 12:40 went to the bathroom and crawled back in bed. When I got in bed I had a contraction. About 10 min later I felt another one. So I figured I should time them. The next one was 5 mins. Then the next one was 3mins!!! They were also to the point where I didn't want to lay down. So I woke up Kent to let him know. He just rolled over and called my mom (who lives 15-20 min away) to come over. We started to get things packed. I called my doula and told her they were coming every 3-4 mins. She told me I sounds like we didn't need to head to the hospital any time soon, but to stick it out. The contractions fizzled out some. But by the time my mom got to our house 15 min. later they were every 1-2 min. lasting for about a min. They were strong, but I was talking and walking (on my tip toes) through them. So we decided to head to the hospital anyways. It was a 15 min drive away. On the way, I called my doula back and told her were on our way and they were every 1-2 min apart. I call my midwife and let her know I was heading in too.

I got the hospital and got changed into a gown. Since I am VBAC I have to be monitored for 20 min. before I can take the monitors off and just be monitored off and on. My doula got there 10 min. after we did as well and friend (who came to observe). I could not sit on that bed. So my doula had me standing next it and would rub my back, had me do lunges, while I was having contractions and answering questions for the nurse. After 20 min. they had to check me to let my midwife know where I was at. I got checked and was at a 8-9 cm. The next contraction I was in the tub. It felt so good!!! I just got in a zone and just was hanging over the edge of the tub and doing deep groaning (which really helped) with each contraction. Kent would rub my back during each contraction and my doula kept me focus and poured water over my rear end and back. After about 45 min in the tub, I heard my midwife ( didn't know she was there, I was just zoned out) tell me I should try pushing with the next contraction. So I did, I layed on my side and pushed. I heard people ,my doula and Kent tell me that the baby was coming out. I was shocked. My first I pushed 3 hr and had a c-section, my second I pushed for and hour and a half. I was shocked that after one push they could see the head!!! I reached down and felt it. It felt different, but I didn't care. I was getting this baby out! After a few pushed, I don't remember how many times (about 5) she came out. Kent lifted her out of the water, and my midwife told him to stop to unwrap the cord and to break the sack of water. She was born in her sack of water!!! They put her on my chest where I held her for about 10 mins. The cord stopped pulsing and Kent cut the cord, almost getting Elsie's finger in the process. They drained the water then had me stand up, when the pulled the placenta out and it dropped into an ice cream bucket (that was the weirdest thing ever) They wrapped a blanket around me and lead me out of the bathroom too the bed. They weighed Elsie and I heard they announce that she was 9lb 7 oz!!! Crap!!! I thought I totally tore!!! My midwife told me she had to check me to see if I tore. She told me I didn't tear and I threw my hand up over my head and yelled "yes!!!". I was so cold by this time, I was shivering. My midwife and doula kept telling the nurse to bring me the baby, but they were too busy doing their things. So my midwife went over and took Elsie and brought her to me!!! The did all the other stats and test later.

Within an hour and half of getting to the hospital, a little over 2 hours from the first real contractions I had a baby girl in my arms. I never felt scared about what was happening to me. I never felt like I could handle in! I just kept wondering when transition was going to happen! I didn't even know I was in it! Don't get me wrong. I was having awful contractions right on top of each other basically the whole time. I just focused on my breathing and relaxing. I never had an IV put in. They told me I needed one, I told them "No, maybe later." There was no way I was going to hold still hanging over the edge of the tub having contractions one top of each other. Besides 10 min later I had a baby. My midwife and all the nurses were very impressed the way I handled myself and the pain. I am so glad I was able to have a natural birth!! I totally recommended it!! Recovery was a lot easier.
Right after birth!!
She ended up having curly hair. She still does and I love it!!

 The boys love her!
