Potty training.... how is it going?
So a few post ago I mentioned that we started potty training. No.. Wesson is not potty trained yet. But he is doing a great job for his age. He will be 2 next month and my goal is that he will be potty trained enough to wear underwear all day (except for nap/ bedtime) and keep them dry. Let week he had a set back, and really didn't potty train. Wesson was sick and had a fever for four days. So I kept him in a diaper and we cuddled all day instead. This week has been fantastic!!! He is getting better and better every day! He keeps his underwear dry all day, and goes pee every time I put him on the toilet. I take him about every 1 to 1 1/2 hours. He usually poops while he sleeps, so we have had to dealt with poopy underwear only once. I know once I start keeping him in underwear during nap time it will be hard, but it's nice not to deal with that now. He doesn't tell me when he has to go, but he tells me when he is done going on the potty. He looks up at me and tells me "All- done, Momma!" as he does the ASL sign for all-done. So cute!! I still put him in a diaper for church or if we are going shopping. He is still too little and can't balance on a regular toilet by himself. Though if he keeps this up, I will try it next week maybe. And no.... Wesson does not run around with only his underwear on all day despite what the picture shows. That was when we were first starting. He always wear underwear and pants!

1/2 Marathon!!!
So... I've been stuck in Arizona for the last three days, so I was unable to blog about my race! I did the Run for Ryan House 1/2 Marathon march 6th in Scottsdale, AZ! I was going to run it with my sister Charisse and my Uncle Bill. This is my sister's 3rd 1/2 marathon and Uncles and my first 1/2 marathon. Though my sister and Uncle ran a marathon last summer! For those that don't know a 1/2 marathon is 13.1 miles. I thought a good times to finish would be 2 hrs 30 min. I am a slow runner and my main focus was to just run the whole time and not walk, except for aide stations (this is where you get water, it's very hard to run and drink at the same time. You grab a cup slow down for a few steps take a couple of steps and then start running again and you throw the cup on the ground.) The day before we picked up our race packets that has your shirt, running number, and D-tag (this is your timing chip, that hooks on your shoe, so you can get an accurate time) We got our free massage and then drove the course. Our race started at 7am, so we got there about 6:15 to warm up, and do last min prep.

Here is Charisse and I before the race. You can see hoe dark it was outside, so it was still a tiny bit cold. We were still waiting for my Uncle to get there when the race started. We had pins for him to pin his number on, but we couldn't wait any longer for him, so we were the last ones to cross the start line and ran slow to see if he could catch up with us. My poor Uncle thought the race started at 7:30 instead of 7. He ran from his car to the start line which added another mile, stopped put on his timing chip shoved his number in his shorts and then ran around the cones they had blocking the start, because he was so late. He caught up with us and then passed us. We also had a pin for him to pin his car key to his shorts ( they didn't have drop bags) we asked him where his key was and he told his it was in his "camper". I sure hope that worked for him?! He pulled an excelled time of 1 hr 55 mins!!!
Here is Charisse before the race. Here is me before the race.
The race was a lot harder than I thought. The first 6 miles (first hour) was a constant gradual up hill. I thought I would be fine with this. I run in Nebraska which has hills, so no big deal! Well, in NE you run up and then you run down, so as you run down you recovery from the uphill. I wasn't prepared for the constant uphill! I didn't get to recover. It was like running on a treadmill at an incline for hour!!!! I thought it was funny that they placed volunteers every so often along the trail, just for the purpose of cheering you on!!! We were know as the "headband girls" because of the bright headbands that we wore. I did feel bad when at 1.5 miles and at 3 miles when people asked us if this was the 1/2 or the 5k. I felt bad for them! They ran all this distance to to turn around ans miss their race!! There were several times when I felt I could not go on! But I knew it was just the uphill and I would be fine once we passed that. So instead of walking I would have my sister "push" me for a while. She would run behind me and to the side and place her hand on my shoulder bland and not let me got slower than that. That helped a ton and I am so grateful that she was willing to help me out!!! If I would have ran this by myself I would have walked!!!! But I didn't sign up and train for a 1/2 marathon to walk part of it!!!! They of course threw in a good size hill at mile 12 which was a very hard hill! I was just telling myself that once I got done I could have a nice cold bottle of water and a banana. So once I crossed that finish line I grab my medal and went to find my water and banana. I was very mad when I found out that they had run out of water and bananas!!!! They only had apples!!!!! I almost wanted to cry! Who runs out of water for a race!!!! I just ran 13.1 miles and I wanted water!!!!!! So we walked back to our car (another mile) to drink some water and cool down. It was very cool that as you crossed the finished line you heard " Charisse Tryon and LanaMarie Thorne are now crossing the finish line!!!" and you knew you just finished a big accomplishment!!!
Here we all red faced from the race. I was worried about over heating because I was running in AZ and the warmest I had ran in was 34 degrees!!! Lucky for me it was cloudy most of the time and windy! The wind made it harder to run, but it felt nice. But because I had only ran in colder weather I was always wearing long sleeves, so I borrowed a shirt from my sister which about 6 miles left started to rub my armpits and caused welts to form. I now have scabs from that shirt right now. The first thing I did when I got to my car was to take off my shirt and slip my jacket on. My armpit was stinging really bad. The whole sweat and salt didn't help the matter.
Here is a picture of us with Uncle Bill. I left my husband and son in NE while I raced so we had no one to cheer us on or take picture during the race.
The results:
Time: 2 hr 23 min
runner 385 out of 475 finishers
192nd women out of 251
38th out of 56 for my age group (25- 29)
Nothing impressive, but better than I thought for how hard it was.
Injuries:
This is my finger. This is a very bad picture. My finger is bruised from half my finger and up. The dark spot is a blood blister and my finger is so swollen that I could not bend my finger. As of right now 6 days later I still can't bend it due to swelling and not pain. I have no feeling in the top half of my finger. How did this happen? The night before my race I was helping my brother put a cattle rack on the bed of the truck and I smashed my finger between the heavy medal and the edge of the truck. I was so nervous that my finger was going to throb and be very painful during the race. But I can't feel it so I guess that was a nice blessing. So instead of losing a toenail I might lose a fingernail instead.
Over all:
I am very proud of myself for being able to run that distance after only 7 months of running. Will I do a marathon now? No, it take too much time away from my family. I think I would do another 1/2 before I did a full marathon to feel better prepared. The hill really shook up my mental preparedness and made it really hard to keep running. I'm not ready to find a babysitter for several hours several days a week. When Kent is done with school and is home earlier and on Saturday I would then try a marathon. Plus we don't have money for me to fly somewhere to run a marathon this year with vacation and reunions coming up. So yes, I want to run a marathon but not right away maybe in a year. Anyone who wants to run one in a year look me up!!!

MONEY!!!
For some reason Wesson knows all about money. When he see cash, he will yell "MONEY!" He know the difference between a penny, nickel, quarter, and dime. I don't know how he know the difference. Kent and I have never taught him about money. We never have any cash hanging around. I mean, we hardly ever have any in our wallet. He never sees it, but yet he know the difference.
So tonight we went and ate at Chinese Buffet and we were sitting in a booth eating when the people in the next booth were done with their food and paying for their food. Wesson see them pull out some cash and starts yelling "Money!!! Money!!! Money!!!" It was a little embarrassing. It's a good thing that I don't think they understood him. I still have no idea where he learned about money and why he gets so excited when he sees it. He doesn't get it from us. Thought I would be really happy and yell "Money!!!" if a huge pile landed in my lap!!!
On another note......
He recently has started yelling "Hanna! Hottie!!". Hanna is our friend daughter. Born the same day as him. He had a blast hanging out with her, but Wesson has hung out with her a total of 2 times!!! She lives in Utah and he hasn't seen her since our trip to Utah the beginning of February. Yes, Hanna is a hottie, but it's just weird that he doesn't see her all the time, and yet yells out "Hanna, Hottie!!!" Hanna, you better watch out when you get older!!
