Sew..... a needle pulling thread....

So.... I just realized that I had a ton of sewing projects that I would like to get done before baby comes and as of tomorrow I am considered full term!!! Do I think the baby will come early?? No. But I like being prepared. Besides I can always hope that it does come early. Right now I think the end of 38 weeks and 39 weeks would be a perfect time for baby to come, but that's up to baby to decide! Anyways.... back to sewing. I finally feel the urge, pressure, desire to sew. This is what I accomplished this week.....

I have no clue why these pictures are the wrong way. They are correct in the file, but blogger is flipping them! I tried the applique stitch and I really like how it turned out. I was going to make a big brother shirt for Wes, but the 2t/3t package of shirts are too small and the 4t is way to big. Plus, I found one for $2, and it saves me a sewing project!

Here is a Sunday shirt for my new little man. I plan of making some black slacks to go with them. I hope to get to that next week. I also found a newborn pair of dress shirt brand new for $3 to go with them!! I started a different one with a tie out of a scrap of tie I made for Wesson that matches one of Kent's ties. I thought it would be cute for all three of my boys to match. I put wonder under on it and for some reason, it would not let me zig zag, and it gummed my my needle. So that one went in the trash!

It's not a new sewing project, but I got my crib up finally and here is what my quilt looks like in the crib. * Notice the Toy Story pillow.... Wesson thinks that Baby Barrett needs that pillow... and wants to share it. He won't let me put it back in his bed! What a great big brother he will be!

I did make a crib skirt this week! I wanted to use the brown and white polka dot material from the quilt, but after two different runs to JoAnn's (who did not have it) I gave up and went with brown.  I thought it turned out just as good.

Since I've been making so many things for the baby I had to make something for Wes!!! I saw this material and fell in love with it. It's decor fabric, so I had a hard time deciding what to make with it. Then I saw this and knew what to do!!! He is always wanting to bring a train or a car with him to Grandma's house when she babysits him and so I always have toys in my purse. Now he has a cute backpack to put a few toys in to take with him!!!

I think it's a winner!!!

Close up of the back. The pocket are not straight, but it doesn't look as bad as the picture shows. I was too lazy to fix it, and I figured that babies pant never stay in place anyways. So no one should notice. Right!?!

Girl or Boy???

So I found this really cute fall/spring jacket I wanted to make. I plan on making it a boy's jacket. It's 18 months. I went to the store and had a hard time coming up with fabric that I really loved. I also had a hard time finding boy fabric without it being to pattered like dog, cars, or bugs. I'm not a fan of those all over, I only handle them in small doses. So I picked some fabric that I thought looked good together and went home a sewed it. I thought it turned out really cute and I had no problems following the pattern. I spent a little less than 4 hours on it. Here is what it looks like.

I used a nice green plaid flannel for the inside.

Here is what the back and the hood look like. I have an accent strip down the back of the hood.

And the same material down the front. I also picked a nice yellow for the button loops. I was trying to added a different color and not stay with blue. I tend to stick on one color. So added yellow and green. I really love all the top stitching. It makes it look more professional. 

My problem is...... my husband hates it! He also thinks that a BOY should NOT wear it. I think it turned out really cute, but is it more girl than boy? Would you have your 18 month old wear this? I made it for a gift, but now I just want to tuck it away and not look at it. I don't want to embarrass myself by giving it away and them hating it!

Please let me know what you think of this jacket. If it is more girls I could give as a girl present and make something different for this boy. 

I think this project was a flop. Next time I will go with a more basic color for a boy, or just stick to making it for girls.

On the other hand.... I had some scraps of flannel left over so I made Baby Barrett some more cute burp rags. If he is anything like his brother, I will need a ton!!!

36 weeks

35 week appointment

Today was my 35 week appointment. I was excited because lately I've  had lots of  Braxton Hicks, which with Wesson I never had, and I was supposed to get check. I was hoping They would tell me I'm effaced or something. Well, she was running way behind and I didn't get checked. Bummer. I know most people don't like to be checked, but I just like knowing! On the bright side, I only gained 2 lbs, making up for my weight lost from the last 2 weeks, and I was only measuring at 37 weeks. That is the same as I was measuring 2 weeks ago!!! So now I only measure 2 weeks ahead instead of 4 and they know I have extra fluid. I am hoping that it means that my doctor will stop worrying about the size of the baby and me trying VBAC. Either way, I go back in 2 weeks and have an ultrasound. It sounds like at the next appointment she wants to make some decisions about the birth of this baby. I'm worried that I will have to go in ready to fight for what I want. I really want Kent to come with me as back up support, but there is no way he can get off work to come. I just hope that the baby doesn't measure as large as they think, I don't measure any bigger, and that my doctor will listen and respect what I have to say about the choices made. I plan on just telling her that I really only want a C-section if it's the last option. I know that might sound dumb to some people, but it's how I feel. Oh.. well.. If you have any suggestion on what I can say or do, let me know. 

Burp rags, swaddle blanket, and baby sling

Here is a set of 4 burp rags I made with left over material from the sling.

 Here is a swaddle blanket I made. When I say "swaddle blanket" I mean I blanket I can use to swaddle a baby will last until they are 8 months old and not 2 weeks! They are also thin enough to throw in a diaper bag to use as a play blanket. These are my favorite types of baby blankets!

I love being able to sew for my own baby! I did not sew or even enjoyed sewing when Wesson was a baby. It feels great this time around to sew and make thing for my own little one. Don't get me wrong.... I love making baby things for baby showers and thing like that. It's just different when you get to keep it and not give it away!!!
I was going to make a tutorial for the sling, blanket, and burp rags. Even though they are easy to make and I'm sure you can find one out there on many other crafting blogs, I just wanted to share my way of making them. But I went to take pictures and my battery was dead and it takes a while to charge. Sorry. Let me know if anyone is really wanting one and I will try to get on it!

Taxes and Robin Hood

Yesterday I got the last thing I needed in the mail to finish my taxes. As I was walking back to the apt. I was telling Wesson how excited I was to get this for the taxes. He looked at me and put his hands on his hips and said "No Mommy!!! Taxes are for Robin Hood! Not for you!" HAHAHA!! I guess we watch Robin Hood too much around our house!!!

Big Brother Wesson

Lots of people have asked how Wesson is handling me being pregnant and if he understands what is going on. Wesson has done a lot of cute things lately that I want to document. I've just been too lazy to write them all down.  Here are some of the cute things he has done lately with the baby.

* Yesterday he told me that he would set the timer and when the timer goes off, the baby would then come out!!!
* He loves patting the baby, talking to the baby, and kissing the baby!!!
* He thinks the baby is only by my belly button, and tells me all the time that "That is where the baby is going to come out!" I just nod my head and smile!!!
* He will try to give the baby a drink with his sippy cup through my belly button!
* He has a firetruck with a hose attached that he loves to play with. Several times he will place the hose in my belly button and go "SHHHHH I am giving the baby water!SHHHH It's thirsty!"
* He attended the gender ultrasound and the last ultrasound. He got bored fast and insisted that the picture on the screen was water and the baby and not "mommy's belly"
* He loves talking about Baby Barrett and telling people the baby's name.
* Wesson has a book called "Hello baby!" that goes through a pregnancy as a big brother and how the baby grows, doctor's appointments, Grandma watching him while mom has the baby, and things like that. In the book While Grandma watches him while waiting for the baby to come they make cookies, build a fort, and color pictures. Wesson will now tell me that when I go to the hospital and Grandma watches him, he will make cookies, build forts, and color. He thinks he has to do everything the boy in the book does!!!
* He has not felt the baby move. He will not sit long enough to feel a kick, and doesn't really care.
* When it is icy outside he will hold my hand and help me walk so I don't fall and hurt baby Barrett!
* I was putting the bassinet together the other day and talking about when the baby will sleep. The next thing I see is Wesson pulling a chair over to the Bassinet and him placing a pillow from his bed and his favorite blankets in the Bassinet for Baby Barrett. He refused to take them back for several weeks. In fact, there is still a blanket and pillow in there. Some time I throw stuff in there or clothes on it until they get put away correctly. When this happens Wesson becomes very concerned about objects blocking the baby's bed and will remind me to move the things until they are gone.
* Wesson will pray for " Baby Barrett to grow up healthy and strong" and that "he will come out of Mommy's belly."

I hope these are signs that he will be a great big brother and he will not have any issues when baby comes along. But I won't count my chicken before they hatch. This week he has had a hard time taking naps, and then waking up early in the morning screaming and wanting in bed with me. Which he NEVERS sleeps in bed with us! And wanting me to carry him around more. I hope that is a faze he is going through, but I'm trying to spend extra time with him instead of laying or sitting on the couch resting. He loves babies and little kids and using this cute soft high pitch voice with them and pets them gently on the head. I love watching him with other kids! And I can't wait to see what a good big brother he will be with Barrett!!!

He loves to help me cook!!! Especially when I let him lick the bowels clean!!!

Bundled up playing in the snow on our deck. It finally got warm enough for him to go out and play in it! In fact, he wanted to build a snowman and instructed me to get a carrot for the snowman's nose!!!

Here he is being a silly boy! This is the look I usually get when I ask him to smile! Usually he will refuse to look at the camera and run away! All other times I get this!

He loves reading Curious George. One of his favorite is when George makes pancakes. In the story George sprinkles blueberries on the pancakes. I asked Wesson what he wanted for dinner one night and his answer was pancakes (which is a favorite of his). Then he adds that we have to sprinkle blueberries on them before we flip them. Which we did! So here he is making "Curious George Pancakes!" Which he did not like eating, but Mommy and Daddy did!!!

33 week appointment and ultrasound

Today I had a 33 week appointment, but before that I had an ultrasound upstairs. The doctor was concerned that I was measuring 4 weeks ahead and wanted to do a ultrasound. I was hoping that the ultrasound would say that the baby was not measuring 4 weeks ahead and that it was just extra fluid. I almost got my wish. The baby was measuring still big but not as big (whatever that means) The technician estimated the baby to be 5.8 lbs. It should be 4.5lbs. Not to bad, considering they gain 6oz a week. So if the  estimate is correct it's only about 2 weeks bigger than normal. Lucky for me I have Tryon and Thorne genes which means I look big, and have big babies. My husband was a 10lb er. She also said that I did have extra fluid. Just a tiny bit.

The ultrasound was about a 1/2 hour long and I got some really cute pictures of my little one. It looks like he will have big cheeks like Wesson and a cute button nose. I didn't have an ultrasound after 20 weeks with Wesson, so it was really nice to see what the baby looks like when it is bigger and looks more like a baby.

I then went downstairs to see the doctor. She got after me for wearing heeled boots. She told me to wear tennis shoe instead. I was trying to avoid getting my feet wet in the snow outside. Now I know not to wear them next time I go to the doctor's. Yes, I will keep wearing them especially to work! I can not wear tennis shoes to work and I will not be buying new shoes! I will be more careful so I don't slip on the ice though. I lost a lb this week. Now that is a lot better than gaining weight! We are eating a lot more vegetables and less sugar so I am not concerned about losing weight. I am still eating, in fact I had ice cream 4 times last week!!!! I usually never have ice cream!!! I was in heaven!! She wasn't too happy about the baby weighing more than it should and I still get the vibe that she wants to do a c-section, but won't say it. She still wants to do another ultrasound at 37 weeks to monitor the extra fluid and the weight of the baby. I hope I will go earlier than later, to save me from c-section. But baby will come when baby is ready! I go back in, in 2 weeks and then she starts checking my cervix.
What is your opinion on getting your membranes stripped? I had them stripped with Wesson. I did nothing and didn't really hurt. I know Hypnobirthing is not for it. But I can either get them stripped and hope it works and baby comes. Or not have it done and risk getting a c-section. I won't get them stripped until at least 37 weeks. I normally would just wait this time around, but feel really pressured to  have this baby early or have a c-section. What would you do?
